Bulwa was born at Babolna Stud in Hungary in 1937. She was saved in Germany during World War II by Polish breeders, brought to Poland in 1946 and returned to Babolna, Hungary in 1951. Bulwa is the foundress of one of the most notable families in post war Polish breeding.

Bulwa was the dam of Alga (1947) - dam of Algonkina (1961) and Algier (1953) and of Bulgotka (1951) - dam of Boltonka (1958) - US National Champion Mare and of Bogoria (1956) - granddam of Probat (1975) and dam of Buszmen (1968) - Canadian and US National Champion Stallion.
